Configuring the X Ads Integration requires action on both the X side and the Salesforce side. Below are step-by-step instructions to configuring both.
X Configuration
Step 1: Creating New X Developer App
- Sign up for an X developer account here using your company's X account if you do not already have one.
- Within the X Developer Portal, follow the steps to create a Project and developer App.
- Within the App page, go to the Keys and tokens tab, copy the API Key and Secret, and save them to a secure password manager. You will need these values later.
- On the same page, click on the Generate button next to Access Token and Secret and save these values to a secure password manager. You will need these values later too.
- On the Settings tab, save the App ID value as it will be needed in the form in the following steps.
- Go to https://ads.x.com/en/help, click Developer Platform and APIs and then Ads API Access. Click on the link to the form to request Ads API access.
- Complete the form based on your company information:
- Enter company contact details and X account handle.
- Describe your business as "Advertiser"
- When asked "Describe your purpose for using the X Ads API", explain: "We want to pull in X ads analytics data to include in our marketing reporting."
- Choose Standard Ads API access when prompted for access type.
- Wait to receive an email response from the X Ads Developer Program approving your request. Approval usually arrive within 24 hours, but may take up to 5 business days.
Step 2: Get X Ad Account ID
- Go to the X Ads Manager console and log in with your company's X account.
- Click on the company name drop-down on the top right corner of the page, and select "Account settings":
- Save the value for Account ID. You will need it in later steps.
Salesforce Configuration
Step 3: Configuring the X Ads Integration
- For the Daily Aggregate Database to start pulling in data for X, we need to perform some configuration on the DST Configuration page, under the “Ad Platform Configuration” tab.
- Navigate to Digital Source Tracker Configuration (Full Circle Configuration tab -> "Configure" under Digital Source Tracker).
- Go to Ad Platform Configuration tab.
- Open the X Ads Configuration drop-down section.
- Select "Yes" to "Would you like to enable the X Ad Platform Integration?".
- Using the values saved in Steps 1 and 2 above, fill out the rest of the configuration fields.
- Click on Test X API Connection to confirm that authentication is successful to the X Ads API.
- If you receive a "Connection successful!" message, then click Save at the top-right corner of the page. Otherwise, please double-check that configuration values match those in the X Developer Portal.
