The Deal Explorer Button
Overview
The Deal Explorer view gives you the ability to review campaign touches, activity and attribution for an individual Opportunity. We also recommend using it to help fine tune your attribution models. However, this setting is meant to be used for testing and debugging purposes only and should not be left on indefinitely - doing so may cause the Deal Explorer page to fail to load.
Setup
From the Opportunity page layout Select the Deal Explorer button.
- If the button is not visible, refer to the Deal Explorer button configuration instructions to set up and enable.
Top Panel
The top panel displays default data about the Opportunity, and optionally, if supported by a running attribution model, also displays derived First and Last Touch Campaigns.
Below is a screenshot of the default Opportunity fields displayed. Fields with null values in the top section are not displayed.
If you would like to display different fields, refer to the Top Panel Display Via Field Sets section of the Deal Explorer Configuration instructions.
If the models you are running support calculation of a First and Last Touch Campaign – they will be displayed in the Primary Marketing Touch Points section. (NOTE: this section is only found in the Campaign Attribution product, not Response Management.)
The Return to Opportunity Button returns you to the Opportunity page layout.
Deal Explorer Data Considerations
Contact Role Dependencies
With the exception of the Attribution tab, the Deal Explorer looks at Campaign responses and Activities related to Contact Roles on the Opportunity. As Contact Roles on the Opportunity are added or removed, the data will adjust.
Campaign Response Display
Campaign responses displayed are those related to contact roles at the Opportunity and respect the Deal Explorer date range configuration as applied to the campaign member first responded date.
If no date range is specified it will display all responses created prior to the Opportunity close date.
Activity Display
Activity display is based on the Due Date – this is a Date field and defaults in display to the earlier stage for that date.
For example, if an activity is created on the same day an Opportunity is created – the activity will display in the Pre-Opportunity timeframe because we are unable to determine the time relative to Opportunity create field, which is a date/time field.
The same applies for Opportunity stage progression done on the same date – the Activity will be associated to the earliest stage achieved that date.
Only activities with a related contact will be displayed. Activities related to the Opportunity that are not also related to a contact on the Opportunity are not included.
Activities are displayed in the deal explorer based on the Task and Event standard Type field. This field may not be exposed in your organization. If not populated, activities will be grouped into the Task category.
Attribution Metrics Display
The Deal Explorer runs metrics real time, as compared to the Attribution Database, which is rebuilt daily during a batch process or on demand. For this reason attribution metrics may not match reports based on Campaign Attribution reports. It is an excellent way to review specific Opportunities on the fly and to experiment with different model configurations without having to wait for a database rebuild.
Deal Explorer Tabs
There are three Deal Explorer tabs, which display different data:
Profile Listing Tab
This tab displays all Campaign responses and activities related to contact roles within the configured parameters. Any response with HasResponded = False will not appear in the Profile Listing Tab, even if the Response Date is populated.
The Type column displays Campaign for all Campaign Responses and will display the Event or Task value for the standard Type Field on those objects. In cases where the Type field is not set, the system will display either Event for events or Task for tasks. The Columns are sortable and pagination is available for longer lists.
Campaign Attribution Tab
This is real-time processing of whatever attribution models you have active in the system based on this Opportunity only. The columns will display the Label you gave to the attribution model you configured. Models are displayed in the order of Model 1 – Model 3 left to right.
Followed by specific attribution details for this Opportunity, across each model. For example:
Please see the Deal Explorer Data Considerations article for more information.
Visualization Tab
This section will display how the Campaign Responses and Activities fell into the progression of the Opportunity; from Pre-Opportunity to Opportunity Close. You can enable the Visualization tab on the Response Management Advanced Configuration page.
